RE: Warranty Running Out
Warrenty run out is the time to check out the folder.. the folder is where you kept all the info on past problems that you had taken care of, ones that were written up by a service teck, and ones that you verbly compained of.. of the last mentioned, get to the service desk of your dealer and get an appointment for future repairs. also email the manufacture of the rig, its systems and ask for a return answer. Keep all this in a folder to document that you need assistance in the future.. when the warrenty runs out, it does not mean that pre-run-out items are denied.. they will be if you do not document. Emails well written are good evidence of intention by all parties..
RE: Cat. converters
Replacement cats are not that expensive anymore either. Random Tech. has high flow cats at very good prices.
Don't know what you consider not expensive, but costs I have seen for Cat Diesel Engines in MH's run from $700 to $1200. Seems expensive to me.
It seems to me that most of the folks that talk about removing the cats are talking about gassers, where the cost of a new cat is much less.
I'd wager that almost all cats that go bad were damaged by operator error. If we tossed out all of the careless operators, we could save a whole lot more money.
Spending $500 and more for a tank of fuel, makes the WORD EXPENSIVE out moded.. I for one like clean air, and am willing to drive clean to get it.. Don't want to go back to horse drawn wagons or oil burning vehicles eather.. Money is still cheaper than bad health..
RE: Gas Tank Alarm
A Magnet switch like the ones used for the Power steps, or Alarm Systems could be easily installed behind the Gas Door!
this tank alarm switch mounted on the gas cap door sounds workable.. will give it a try and let you know. as to sparks and dumbies sucking gas, what ever happens, happens, insurance needs a work out too.
RE: Pre-Buying fuel
I would be leery of this..

Agree with the main man "Johnny T", beware of the day that the business goes out of business due to high fuel prices..
RE: Shower head making a whistle noise
sounds like maybe you or the shower piping are getting air in the presure system.. Water needs higher presure to make any kind of noise.Just to ask, what tune is the shower whistleing.?? could not resist that bit of non-sense..
RE: tow vehicle
The malibu is very nice I really like the way they look, but it is one certain ford dealer that is giving me enough to make it worth my wild to trade. With the fuel prices the way they are most dealers want me to give them my jeep.
Why not while at that Ford dealer, get the service teck to show you on a 5spd, that it can be towed 4 dn. also make it part of the sales agreement in writing.. Don;t rely on this forum to satisfy your needs for asurance that you will not have any problems.. we try to help with advice but as you know, free advice is worth every nickel it costs..
RE: Avoiding the unexpected
Had a good check list for the DSDP but any list is only good for the one doing the paying.. what I would suggest is that you study the rigs that interest you and ask questions of the sales reps.
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN ANY NEGOCIATION IS THIS!!!
When you hand over the first check/cash/credit card, your power goes with it and it does not come back.. Get all you can prior to any exchange of $$$. It only goes one way and trust me, it does not return.. Barter on all items including the least of value,.. The least of value become important when you need to replace or purchase. This includes wiper blades, wheel covers, washer fuids, oil changes, and any other maintance item that will be needed .. all of the above are open for negociation..As part of a deal, every thing can be on the table.. The worst that can be said is the word "NO". And believe it or not, the person who says "NO" last usually beats out the one who says "YES"...Make the last "NO" yours, go home and wait for the phone to ring and the dealer to say "YES"..
RE: Soft spot in floor near refrigerator
Jim, your not going to know how big of a job it is until you do some exploratory surgery. If you're lucky, the water drained straight through to the ground. If not, it will have migrated around under the floor and could have done some real damage. Just buck up and start cutting, as it will have to be addressed sooner or later. You don't want to put down a nice hardwood floor, only to have problems later. Good luck!
Just the problem that a fellow camper had last winter.. the fix was to repair the referr, which required a removeal and repair, and a floor fix.. without the refrig being done, you will be doing the floor again, and again..
RE: running generator in storage
Personally I wouldn't have left it running unless I was there to keep an eye on it. And I think running it anything over an hour is a waste of fuel. Wouldn't be a problem if you could keep your exhaust in your space.
seems that the atitude came an hour late and just paying for a space does not construe the right to poison anyone. health and safety and permission from the lot owner/manager in this case did not coincide..
RE: A/C units tripping breakers while driving and using Gen
Hi Guy's,
Most RV roof airs pull condencer air from the rear and pushes it out the side,or top. Traveling 60/70 mph on the road sometimes doesn't allow the discharged air to flow properly and results in overheating your roof air. When a overheat happens, the unit will overdraw on amps resulting in a tripped curcuit braker and you hot..
Good Luck
Nick-
This post and the need to know what your gen/set is putting out ,leads to the answer.. also, the start up phaseing on the a/c's will need to be addressed..
RE: Revenue Agent Searching for Montana llc's
Can if you want to, but it is best not to Mess with Mother Nature, the 1040 people or Custums.. No good can come from shakeing your fist toward Ma Nature or the other two...
RE: Great Place to have class a's repaired
sounds great, pass the word and send them a pizza or two for the crew.. everyone likes to be thanked and the stomack is a good place to start.. yellow pages and pizza hut will work. We make it a habit and it costs only a few bucks..
How often does it happen to you
Open the mail and there it is, promiseing that for a fee, I can save lots of money if I join a camp ground membership.
This being a class A site, and thinking that most class A's visit a camp ground, am wondering just what the odds are of my calling and getting a decent camp site, if the management has been clued in to the 50% discount I am after.. Will management give up a reserved 50% off site rather than chance a walkin who will pay the rack rate.? I am referring to Class A parks for Class A's which often are full by 6:30 pm..
RE: Level of Insulation/ R- Value
You can find out much of value about any coach by reading closely the sales lit.. Next time you are on the net or at a show, gather up the sales lititure and look for the "r"values.. This worked for us and was a factor in shopping for a "DSDP"..
RE: a/c wont work on shore power?
Just a quick question.. you didn't say what the shore power was? 15 amp or 30 amp or 50 amp.. gen set is likly putting out near 50 amp and is ok to run all electic within coach.. need to know what the shore power is..
RE: Fire Systems, anybody have them?
Hi Guy's,
I think what I'm asking is if anybody has installed these supression systems and what is involved to install and of course, their reliability.
My concern is when my family is sleeping inside because we boondock quite often
with the genset running. This has woken me up many times at night wondering if everything is in working order and thinking, what if?
A supression system would give us a greater chance to escape in such an event.
Thanks
Nick-
My son-in-law builds and weekend runs drag racers.. they all have the system that you want, but, they then to exclude all air from the site of the fire and you have only a few seconds to jump out.. waking from a sound sleep, finding out that the alarms and supression system have gone off, determining your best moves. well, maybe it will work???
Remember, you would most likly need two as one for the gen set and one for the under the bed engine... Then too, you might as well put one near the furnace and one near the ac unit,,. running one system setup to supple protection for all areas would be a chore..
RE: Spare Tire
What about a spare,. well in my way of thinking, the best spare to carry is a credit card with low interest. With that in my pocket and road side assist on the cell, all one needs to do is get the phone number of the responding tow truck service.. Have them get the correct tire and if they can't, un-hook the toad, call 411 for a truck tire business, or drive over to a nearby truck service plaza.. they will steer one on to a tire shop. One concern is that we RV,ers want to take our time crossing the US of A but can't spend a moment to get a proper tire or other repair.. why the rush..?
RE: Total electrical failure in DutchStar
This may be of some assistance.. under the hood, you will find a number of electrical modules.. they are for a number of systems, and act as electrical controls.. some are for the 4way flashers, and others are as marked.. what happens in a rare case is the modules can become lose with in the containers.. when this happens, they shake lose and interrupt the current flow.. check them out.. there can be other mod,s in other compartments doing likewise.. hard to diagnose as it will be intermittent..
RE: Request for help to stop Township RV zoning ordinance
Hmm, someone who can afford a 42' RV, can't afford a decent enough lot to store it on their own lot?
I would have mixed feelings about allowing storage on the street. I think time limits on street parking is pretty reasonable. But once its on my lot, its my lot and should be my problem as long as it is not obstructing view around corners - such as on a corner lot.
In my town, there is no over-night parking on any public street. this has been in effect for nearly 60 yrs.. reason being that the public right-a-way is for the publics use, IE.travel, snow plowing, policing, access to fire protection devices, ectra.. Parking is prohibited from 12 midnight to 6 am.. Have not heard of anyone having a negitives on this issue.. Any vehicle left for a un-reasonable amout of time, usually when a neighbor complains, will get a ticket, whick helps keep my property taxes in check...
RE: Bored at camp Monaco Harrisburg
Looks like "maybe" one of two things wrong there.. Perhaps it is that they can't get parts or again, maybe not enough service personel.. Always seems that the only good service one can get is from the sales department, from then on, it is "catch as catch can"/.
Will say that at least the wait at the factory is better/shorter than at most dealers.. Most of this could be eliminated with quality controls at the chassis/coach/and all related products involved.. It is not like they just started making these things last year...
